In a post on X, Poan Sapdi said that the notification was sent to her residence months after her holiday trip.He wrote, “Has anyone received a traffic challan after a trip from Switzerland? We just got an challan of 1 lakh almost a year after we came back from our trip from Switzerland, were trying to understand if there is anyway to challenge or get the fine reduced or even waived off.”Stir on social mediaThe post has received much attention and is being viral on social media with over 1.3 million views. Sapdi asked other social media users if they faced any similar incident.Tips for travellersThe issue raised by the post is being discussed on many Indian travelers' groups. Users suggested that in such cases, they should check rental agreement carefully when renting a car abroad. While the rental companies might charge their own administration charges in addition to the penalty and may also have to suffer future travelling issues for it. Many have also recommended that, if received, one must try and pay it timely to get themselves not blacklisted from Schengen visa.A user commented: "There's not much of waiver that could be done under such circumstances..the interest is going to mount up..". Another traveler mentioned his experience from Germany where he received a 10,000 rs penalty for traffic rules. "i would definitely pay... Will pay penalty a bit late because it was intimated too late", Sapdi wrote in response.Pay in installments optionSome users also claimed that there were many large amounts of fines in Switzerland that can be paid in installments.
