The common goal should be to curb the drug problem.Hearing in Lakhimpur Kheri violence caseApart from this matter, the Supreme Court expressed displeasure over the non-production of witnesses during the hearing of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence case against Ashish Mishra, son of former Union Minister Ajay Mishra, and others. A bench comprising CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said that the status report submitted by the state government did not give any reason for not producing witnesses.The Supreme Court stated that no witnesses have been examined in this case for nearly two months. "We direct the presiding judge to take lawful steps to ensure the presence of witnesses," the bench noted. Of the 131 witnesses scheduled to testify in the first case, 44 have testified. Fifteen have been acquitted. Seventy-two witnesses remain to be examined.
