Accusations of Arbitrariness and Lack of Transparency Plague Sambhal's Jama Masjid Committee Leadership
A significant internal dispute has erupted within the managing committee of the historic Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. The conflict pits the committee's Chairman, Imroz Roshan, against its Secretary, Ishtiaq Akhtar, with both parties leveling serious accusations of mismanagement and arbitrary conduct against each other. The disagreement escalated following a recent meeting chaired by Imroz Roshan, which Secretary Ishtiaq Akhtar claims was held without his knowledge or presence. Akhtar has alleged that the Chairman has been acting dictatorially, particularly concerning the mosque's renovation and construction projects. He stated that the committee's work is suffering due to the Chairman's arbitrary decisions and that no progress has been made on important tasks. In protest, Akhtar has demanded the Chairman's resignation and has called for a new meeting on December 1 to address these issues with other committee members. On the other hand, Chairman Imroz Roshan has refuted these claims, asserting that the allegations are baseless and intended to tarnish his reputa with the majority of members present. Roshan accused the Secretary of being absent from meetings and obstructing the committee's work. He also raised questions about financial transparency, alleging that the Secretary has failed to provide a proper accounting of the mosque's income and expenditures. The Chairman stated that he had requested this financial report from the Secretary multiple times but has yet to receive a satisfactory response. The escalating infighting between the top office-bearers has created a crisis within the committee, casting a shadow over the management and ongoing renovation of the revered mosque.
