Amarnath Yatra 2026: Third Batch Departs Jammu Under Multi-Tier Security Cover as Tawi Riverfront Debuts Boating Hub

The deeply revered Amarnath Yatra 2026 is officially underway, filling the transit corridors of Jammu and Kashmir with a powerful wave of spiritual energy. The 57-day annual pilgrimage, which commenced on July 3, is scheduled to conclude on August 28, 2026. Earlier this morning, the third batch of eager yatris safely departed from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu under a heavily fortified, multi-layered security umbrella. Concurrently, the second batch of pilgrims began their challenging upward foot trek into the scenic South Kashmir Himalayas, moving systematically from the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam toward the holy cave shrine.Comprehensive Security Net and Specialised Medical InfrastructureTo ensure a secure and smooth passage for lakhs of devotees arriving from all corners of the country, the state administration and central forces have deployed an extensive, high-tech security grid along the entire route. This visible safety framework has significantly boosted the morale of the yatris as they prepare for the demanding high-altitude darshan.Alongside security, the medical deployment has seen major upgrades this year. The Udhampur District Health Team has set up a comprehensive emergency medical matrix along the volatile Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), covering the critical stretch from the Tikri Kali Mata Temple to the Chenani-Nashri Tunnel. Ten fully operational, stationary first-aid camps have been stationed at known transit bottlenecks, supported by six advanced life-support ambulances.On-Ground Medical Support: "These emergency vehicles are specifically positioned to deliver rapid, life-saving medical interventions on the spot and to facilitate the swift evacuation of any distressed or ill pilgrims to nearby base hospitals if a high-altitude emergency arises," confirmed Chief Medical Officer Anil Manhas.Complementing the state machinery, various community groups are providing round-the-clock support. Varinder Malik, President of the Om Shiv Shakti Sewa Langar Committee, shared that their base camp is fully stocked with oxygen cylinders and critical medications for blood pressure and blood sugar management, supporting their continuous three-meal bhandara kitchen.Cultural Upgrade: Jammu Tawi Riverfront Transformed into a Tourism HubIn a major boost to local tourism and pilgrim amenities, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has officially launched a vibrant boating facility at the newly developed Jammu Tawi Riverfront. Aimed at welcoming travellers with a refreshing, family-friendly environment, the riverfront now serves as an active evening cultural zone.JMC Commissioner Devansh Yadav highlighted that while mandatory registration and token processing are being handled smoothly for the mountain trek, the riverfront offers a space to unwind before hitting the road. The evening activities include a grand light-and-sound show, along with the traditional Tawi Aarti performed daily at 7:30 PM.The new water sports deck offers rides on traditional Shikaras, paddleboats, and high-speed motorboats for all individuals aged 10 and above, with life jackets strictly mandatory. Tickets are priced at ₹50 and ₹100 through our online booking portal, offering families and spiritually charged yatris a positive, memorable start to their Himalayan pilgrimage.
