Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : What is the prescribed way of bathing in Hinduism. Everything has rules and regulations in Hinduism and adherence to these has been considered conducive to a healthy life. Our Scriptures tell how a man should live in society, what he should keep in mind and how he should respect nature.Out of many things, one such rule has to do with the process of taking a bath. When most people take a bath, they take off all their clothes but as a matter of fact, Hindu religion forbids bathing naked. Let’s find out how the law says about it. This practice of bathing naked is described by Manusmriti in details, where in chapter 4 verse 45 it says- 'nannamadyadekvasa na naked: snanamacharet na urine pathi kurvit na bhasmani na govraje ll 45 ll'.Which means "Never should a man eat in a single garment, or without proper clothes; Never should he bathe naked, and should also not urinate or defecate on the road, on ashes or on a cow pen".Lord Krishna teaches lessons to gopis This particular procedure regarding bathing was adopted and taught to gopis by Lord Krishna. It is narrated that the Gopis who were bathing naked on the banks of the river Yamuna by leaving their clothes ashore had their clothes snatched away by Lord Krishna who was hiding behind the trees. When asked to return their clothes by the gopis, Lord Krishna admonished them saying " rivers and water is not water but the incarnation of the 'water god'; hence going naked to water is an disrespect to the water god", with which the Gopis accepted their mistakes, and vowed not to go naked again.A description is available in Garuda Purana Besides this, such things are mentioned in Garuda Purana and Padma Purana as well. It is believed that our deceased ancestors remain all around us in subtle forms. According to Padma Purana, whatever water we bathe in flows to our ancestors. In the absence of a cloth covering when we bathe, we are going in front of our ancestors bare. This causes pain to the ancestors and thus the occurrence of 'Pitra Dosha'. Taking a bath naked also makes it easier for the negative energy to enter our bodies and can also lead to negative thinking. Moreover, this also angers the Goddess of wealth and glory. Thus, while bathing one should at least cover the body with a thin cloth.
