
Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan faces yet another blow. A court in rampur on tuesday has convicted him in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls controversial "Tankhaiya" statement. The Rampur MP-MLA court heard the case and found the leader guilty.The case is related to an alleged derogatory remarks made by the Rampur MP against then District Magistrate (DM). Azam khan was accused of using offensive and threatening language for then-DM at election rally during campaigning. After this particular statement a case was filed against SP leader.Controversial statement during campaignIt is reported that Azam Khan was contesting from the Lok Sabha election for SP and was campaigning in the area under Bhot police station and on a speech that went viral and is being called "Tankhaiya", targeted current District Magistrate stating that "He is a salaried employee. Do not be afraid of him. I have allied with a person who get his shoes polished. I'll make him clean my shoes after the elections. Insha Allah". During the same speech Mayawati was also mentioned.Azam Khan found guiltyAn FIR was filed against Azam khan under charges of promoting hatred and violating election model code of conduct. Since then, the case has been under trail at MP/MLA court special Judge court in rampur for several months now and today after much arguments between prosecution and defence and recording witness statements, the verdict was delivered and Azam khan has been found guilty.Sentenced to 2 yrs and Rs 5000 fineThe special court's MP/MLA court magistrate trial Shobhit Bansal of Rampur MP/ MLA Special Court Judge awarded 2 years jail sentence along with a fine of Rs 5000 to Azam khan.Azam Khan faces trial in several other cases and is in jail. The political situation of his and his family has worsened.
