Big Relief for 28 Lakh Families: Chhattisgarh Launches Electricity Bill Payment Solution Scheme 2026

In a major move to support household and agricultural consumers, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has officially launched the 'Mukhyamantri Bijli Bill Bhugtaan Samadhan Yojana 2026' in Raipur. This initiative is designed to provide massive financial relief to those struggling with long-pending electricity arrears and heavy late-payment surcharges.The ₹757 Crore Debt Relief Plan The scheme is set to benefit over 28.42 lakh consumers across the state, including Domestic, BPL, and Agriculture categories. Under this limited-time offer, the government has announced a 100% waiver on surcharges (late fees) for those who clear their principal outstanding amount. This move is expected to settle nearly ₹766 crore in total pending dues.Flexible Payments and Registration Rules To make the process easier for the common man, the government is allowing consumers to pay their pending principal amount in easy installments.Registration Mandatory: To avail of the benefits, consumers must register for the scheme.Initial Deposit: A minimum payment of 10% of the principal amount is required at the time of registration.Deadline: The scheme is active until June 30, 2026, giving residents enough time to clear their debts and restore disconnected lines.New Billing Tech: ToD and Smart Meters Beyond the relief scheme, Raipur and other major cities are witnessing a shift in how electricity is consumed and billed:Time-of-Day (ToD) Tariff: Starting from late 2025, rates vary based on the time of use. Consumers get a 5% discount during off-peak hours (9 AM to 5 PM) but face a 5% premium during peak hours (5 PM to 11 PM).Smart Metering: The rollout of smart meters is being fast-tracked to provide real-time tracking, helping users monitor their consumption and avoid high bills.A Step Toward "Har Ghar Roshan" The Chief Minister emphasized that the government's priority is to ensure that electricity bills do not become a source of anxiety for families. By combining financial waivers with modern billing technology, Chhattisgarh aims to create a more transparent and consumer-friendly power sector.
