The newly formed National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Bihar, led by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, has completed its first month in office. Marking this milestone since taking the oath at Lok Bhavan on April 15, the administration has rolled out a series of transformative policies. From major urban development overhauls to critical education reforms and public grievance mechanisms, the government has approved 7 monumental decisions aimed at reshaping the socio-economic landscape of Bihar.Revolutionizing Urban Living: 11 New Planned Satellite Townships Across 10 DistrictsIn a bid to reduce urban congestion and provide a modern, sustainable lifestyle to citizens, the Samrat Choudhary government has approved the development of 11 new satellite townships across 10 key districts. Designed as one of the Chief Minister's flagship dream projects, these townships will feature meticulously planned residential colonies, designated commercial markets, wide arterial roads, and expansive green cover. The planned townships and their dedicated names include:Patna: Pataliputra TownshipSonepur: Hariharnathpur TownshipGaya: Magadh TownshipDarbhanga: Mithila TownshipSaharsa: Kosi TownshipPurnia: Purnia TownshipMunger: Ang TownshipSitamarhi: Sitapuram TownshipBhagalpur: Vikramshila TownshipMuzaffarpur: Tirhut TownshipChhapra: Saran TownshipAdditionally, a proposal to integrate Sasaram into this expansive urban development network is under consideration.Educational Overhaul: Model Schools and Degree Colleges to Spark Rural GrowthPrioritizing rural education, the second cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary sanctioned a massive budget of ₹800 crore to elevate infrastructure. Under this scheme, all District Schools along with one selected higher secondary school in every block will be upgraded into state-of-the-art 'Model Schools'.Furthermore, to ensure higher education accessibility, the cabinet approved ₹104 crore (allocating ₹50 lakh per college) to establish brand-new degree colleges in 211 blocks that currently lack such facilities. This massive educational push will also generate 9,152 new institutional posts, creating significant employment opportunities within the state.Direct Public Accountability: Launch of Sahyog Portal and Panchayat-Level CampsTo bridge the gap between governance and citizens, the administration has introduced a robust three-tier grievance redressal system known as the 'Sahyog Triveni'. This initiative comprises the Sahyog Helpline (1100), the official Sahyog Portal (sahyog.bihar.gov.in), and bi-monthly 'Sahyog Shivirs' (camps) organized at the panchayat level on the first and third Tuesday of every month. These camps will directly address public grievances related to local blocks, police stations, and revenue offices. Notably, a strict 30-day resolution timeline has been mandated for all complaints registered on the portal. Failure to resolve issues within this period will result in the immediate suspension of the negligent officer or employee.Cracking Down on Private School Monopolies: Relief for ParentsIn a major relief to parents across Bihar, the government has enforced strict transparency guidelines for private educational institutions. Private schools are now legally mandated to publicly disclose their complete fee structures, putting a definitive end to arbitrary fee hikes and hidden charges.Additionally, the government has abolished institutional monopolies on student supplies; school managements can no longer compel parents to purchase uniforms or textbooks from specific designated commercial vendors, granting families complete freedom of choice.Empowering Local Businesses: ₹50 Crore Civil Contracts Reserved for Bihari ContractorsFostering local entrepreneurship and boosting the state's internal economy, the government has successfully amended the Bihar Public Works Code. Under the revised guidelines, local contractors from Bihar will be given exclusive preference for all state civil works and infrastructure projects valued up to ₹50 crore. This landmark decision is expected to drastically increase business and employment opportunities for local engineering and construction firms.Safety First: 'Police Didi Yojana' to Protect Women and StudentsWith a strong focus on women's safety, crime prevention, and building communal trust with law enforcement, the government has launched the innovative 'Police Didi Yojana'. As part of this initiative, the state has approved the procurement of 1,500 scooters for female police personnel. These dedicated 'Police Didis' will be actively deployed outside schools, colleges, and prominent public coaching centers to deter instances of harassment and ensure a secure academic environment for female students.
