State spokesperson Ajay Shah has called it a 'musical chairs' game played by the government.In the wake of speculations of Jharkhand Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan's resignation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday slammed the Hemant Soren led JMM government over the 'musical chairs' game played by the state and added that the future of constitutional post-holders was not secure at all.According to close aides of Rajiv Ranjan, the former filed his resignation to the chief secretary earlier in the day but was not available to respond to phone calls. The government has also not confirmed anything yet but Rajiv Ranjan was appointed the Advocate General of Jharkhand in 2020 after the formation of the JMM led government.BJP state spokesperson attacked the government"Whether Rajiv Ranjan resigned voluntarily or under pressure will not be hidden from the people of the state; everyone knows the game played here", alleged BJP state spokesperson Ajay Shah in his statement.Calling for white paper on Rajiv Ranjan's entire tenure, Shah added, "The government should justify why the Advocate General resigned if his tenure was good, and why was he kept on the post for so long if it was bad?"Rohitash Roy becomes new Advocate GeneralThe Jharkhand government has appointed senior lawyer Rohitashva Roy as the new Advocate General of the state. The notification regarding this was issued by the state government on Sunday evening. Earlier in the morning, Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan who had served in the post for six years submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister, Hemant Soren.As per a notification issued by the Law Department, "In exercise of the power conferred under clause (1) of Article 165 of the Constitution of India, the Governor is pleased to accept the resignation of Sri Rajiv Ranjan from the post of Advocate General of Jharkhand submitted by him on June 14."Rohitashya Roy, senior advocate, Jharkhand High Court has been appointed as Advocate General of Jharkhand with effect from the date of assuming charge, until further orders. Rohitashya Roy is senior advocate of Jharkhand High Court and is practicing for a long time in constitutional, civil and service matters. He has expertise in writ petition, civil suits, appeals and revision petitions cases in the High Court.What is the role of the Advocate General?The Advocate General is the chief legal advisor of the state government. He represents the state government in various courts including High Court and advises the state government on important legal matters. He is also associated in various issues of state policy, legislative matters and constitutional affairs.The appointment of the new state advocate general is being deemed important by the administrators and legal experts of the state however, there have been no comments or statements from the state government about the reasons behind the resignation of Rajiv Ranjan.
