
India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has announced the full rollout of face authentication for customer transactions via Aadhaar, enabling greater access to the payment system for the elderly, disabled, and those who face challenges with biometrics due to old age or illness. Developed alongside UIDAI, this system enables customers to access banking services using face recognition, doing away with the need for physical biometrics such as fingerprints or OTPs. As stated by IPPB, this system of authentication is in line with the objectives set for Digital India and Financial Inclusion. The service is likely to aid customers in urban and rural regions, especially those with chipped fingerprints and those elderly customers who do not have access to mobile phones. IPPB's Manageing Director and CEO R Viswesvaran stated, “At IPPB, we believe that banking should not just be accessible but dignified too. With Aadhaar based face authentication, we are ensuring that no customer is left behind because of biometric fingerprint or OTP limitations. It’s not just a tech feature; it’s a step towards redefining financial inclusion at scale.” Notable characteristics of IPPB’s face authentication are inclusive banking for the elderly and disabled, and those with worn fingerprints.Aadhaar verification without using OTPs or fingerprints. Transactions are quick and contactless, improving customer satisfaction. Safe banking is practiced during health emergencies, minimizing physical contact. Full service support offered for banking includes account opening, balance inquiry, fund transfers, and utility bill payments. The introduction of IPPB face authentication service is in sync with the Digital India and Financial Inclusion goals of the Government of India. It sets the standard for how technology can enhance convenience and uphold fairness, universal access, and empowerment.
