A tense situation is developing over the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, a facility that was once the heart of American military operations in the country. The Taliban has now issued a direct threat of war against the United States and its neighbor Pakistan if any attempt is made to retake the base. This strong reaction comes after recent comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, who has publicly stated his desire to get the strategic air base back under American control. Trump highlighted the base's location, noting its proximity to China's nuclear activities, as a key reason for wanting it back. He warned of "BAD THINGS" if the base was not returned, adding pressure to the situation. The Taliban's leadership was quick to push back. They have made it clear that giving up the base, or any part of Afghanistan, is not on the table. One official stated they would not part with "even an inch" of their territory and called on the U.S. to follow the terms of the 2020 Doha Agreement, which was about respecting Afghanistan's independence. Another high-ranking military leader said that any aggressive move would be met with a strong response. The warning was also extended to Pakistan, with the Taliban cautioning them against providing any support to the U.S. in this matter, threatening a "major confrontation" if they did.Bagram Air Base was handed over by U.S. and NATO forces in July 2021, just before the Taliban took control of the country. The withdrawal itself, which began under a deal made by the Trump administration, has been a point of criticism for the former president. While Trump has hinted at being in talks to get the base back, Taliban sources have denied this, saying their discussions have been on other topics entirely. For now, the strong words have created an uneasy standoff in the region.
