In a major administrative crackdown, the Chhattisgarh government has suspended senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Ratan Lal Dangi following serious allegations of misconduct and misuse of his official position. Dangi, a 2003-batch officer who was serving as Inspector General (IG), faced immediate action after controversial photos and reports related to a harassment complaint went viral on social media. The Allegations and Suspension Order The suspension follows a departmental inquiry initiated in October 2025, sparked by a complaint from the wife of a junior police officer. The complainant accused the IG of mental, physical, and financial harassment while he was posted as the Director of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose State Police Academy in Chandrakhuri. The official order issued by the State Home Department described Dangi’s conduct as "unbecoming" of a senior official and a "prima facie violation" of the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968. It further noted that the public circulation of these allegations had significantly tarnished the reputation of the police department.CM Vishnu Deo Sai’s Strong Stance Speaking on the suspension, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the government had been receiving consistent complaints regarding the officer's behavior. "Such actions were damaging the image of the state government and the police force. To maintain integrity and public trust, immediate suspension was necessary," the CM remarked.Officer Denies Charges, Alleges Blackmail Responding to the suspension, Ratan Lal Dangi has firmly denied all accusations, labeling them as a "conspiracy." He claimed to be a victim of blackmail and extortion by the woman, asserting that he had previously informed the Director General of Police (DGP) about the pressure being exerted on him to distance himself from his family.Current Status During the suspension period, Dangi has been attached to the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Nava Raipur. He is prohibited from leaving the headquarters without prior permission and will receive a subsistence allowance as per government regulations. A full-scale departmental investigation is currently underway to determine the final course of action.
