Securing a robust domestic supply chain for critical and strategic minerals has become pivotal to powering next-generation technologies, from renewable energy storage and electric vehicles to defense gear and advanced artificial intelligence systems.Accelerating its journey toward becoming a foundational mineral hub, Chhattisgarh has officially rolled out the auction process for crucial strategic mineral blocks under the Ministry of Mines' eighth auction tranche, positioning the state at the forefront of the nation's clean tech revolution.Five Major Mineral Blocks Put on the Block in Nava RaipurThe investment landscape and mineral wealth of the state were put on display during an extensive roadshow conducted by the Ministry of Mines in Nava Raipur. Across the country, twenty strategic mineral blocks spanning seven states are being auctioned in the current tranche, with five prime blocks located within Chhattisgarh.Addressing industry leaders and prospective bidders, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai urged domestic and international investors to actively participate. The state has already witnessed the auction of 65 mineral blocks in recent cycles, unlocking an estimated potential revenue pool of approximately ₹4 lakh crore for state development and infrastructure.Treasure Trove of Lithium, Graphite, and Rare Earth ElementsModern advanced manufacturing hinges heavily on critical raw materials that Chhattisgarh possesses in significant abundance. The state's geographical belt features rich reserves of lithium, graphite, rare earth elements (REE), tungsten, vanadium, and gallium:Katghora and Bastar Belts: Known for massive potential in lithium reserves and strategic rare earth elements, including hosting India's premier lithium-rich auctioned block.Balrampur Region: Rich in high-grade graphite, vanadium, and gallium deposits essential for semiconductor and battery tech.Other Strategic Zones: Extensive pockets of nickel and chromium exploration.Over the past two and a half years, over 40 extensive exploration initiatives and 2,800 kilometers of rigorous geological surveys have been completed across the state to de-risk investments and map untapped reserves.Balancing Rapid Extraction with Environmental SustainabilityRefuting the notion that mineral extraction must come at the expense of ecology, state leadership highlighted that responsible and sustainable mining protocols have successfully expanded Chhattisgarh’s forest cover by 1.22 percent.Alongside the mining drive, the state also unveiled digital governance initiatives. Chief Minister Sai launched the e-Sand Sangwari portal to ensure subsidized and transparent sand distribution for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana beneficiaries, alongside the dedicated Tin Portal in Dantewada to guarantee fair market pricing for tribal families harvesting tin. Additional MoUs were signed to boost financial assistance in mineral sectors and facilitate specialized corundum cutting and polishing training.Driving Global Self-Reliance and Economic Value AdditionSpeaking at the event, Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey underscored that establishing self-reliance in strategic minerals is vital to safeguarding national economic sovereignty. He invited startups, researchers, and established miners to scale value-added processing within the country.Echoing these priorities, Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu urged developers to prioritize civic infrastructure, education, and healthcare in mining belts. Ministry of Mines Secretary Keshav Chandra noted that nationwide auction processes have covered 88 critical blocks—with 56 successfully allocated—backed by streamlined approvals and the Unified Mining Portal to maintain investor transparency and accelerate production timelines.
