Delhi Gears Up for Kanwar Yatra with Significant Road Closures and Diversions

New Delhi: In anticipation of the annual Kanwar Yatra, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive advisory warning commuters of significant road closures and diversions across the capital. Key routes, particularly in East and North-East Delhi, will be affected from July 21 to July 23, impacting travel for residents and visitors. The advisory indicates that several major stretches will be closed to vehicular movement to ensure the safe passage of pilgrims, known as Kanwariyas. These include the left carriageway of GT Road from Keshav Chowk roundabout to Yudhishthir Setu (ISBT), which will be shut from Monday morning to Wednesday morning. Additionally, GT Road from Apsara Border to Shahdara, Seemapuri to Apsara Border, Anand Vihar to Apsara Border, and GT Road to Vivek Vihar Underpass are among the routes facing closures. Traffic from Swami Dayanand Marg to Keshav Chowk and from Pusta Road to Shastri Park will also be restricted. To mitigate congestion, the Delhi Traffic Police has outlined alternative routes. Commuters are strongly advised to plan their journeys in advance, avoid the affected areas, and utilize public transport where possible. The measures are in place to manage the heavy influx of devotees travelling to collect holy Ganga water. The advisory remains in effect until July 23.
