
New Delhi:The early morning hours of Friday saw Delhi and surrounding areas receiving heavy rains. According to IMD alerts, more rains are predicted for the national capital today. Downpour alerts were also issued for Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar. There are also alerts regarding the increased water levels which is flooding the low-lying areas. Overcast Skies over Delhi The IMD also expects that the overcast skies over Delhi will persist throughout the day Friday, and there are also chances of the formation of thunderclouds, which may lead to weak showers. The high and low temperatures for the day are expected to be around 34°C and 24°C. There is potential for some rains in the first week of August, though heavy showers are not likely.Worsening of floods in Madhya Pradesh Flood-like circumstances prevail in Madhya Pradesh due to numerous districts bordering rivers. Entire villages are submerged. The Gwalior-Chambal region is particularly impacted due to the rising water levels in the Chambal River, which has surged more than four meters above the danger mark. This is caused by the water releases from Rajasthan’s Kota Barrage and Nonar Dam. Other rivers Kwari and Asan are also flowing dangerously close to their danger levels. Baroda in Sheopur district continues to face the same flood outline as the catastrophic floods of 2021. Rescue efforts for the submerged villages are underway by the SDRF teams in Shivpuri, Datia, and Gwalior’s Bhitarwar. In Guna, Army personnel have been deployed for the past two days to assist in the evacuation of the affected people. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing using two Army helicopters. In Shivpuri’s Pachawali village, the Sindh River floods have displaced over fifty families.Army called in as situation deteriorates in Rajasthan Due to heavy rainfall, the Chambal and Parvati rivers have overflowed in Rajasthan. In Dholpur, the Chambal River is flowing 12 meters above the danger mark, drowning multiple regions. Consequently, the Army is aiding in the rescue operations. Flood-like conditions are present in Kota, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur and Tonk. NDRF and SDRF units are actively involved in the rescue of trapped individuals. Beas River Water Reaches Homes and Shops in Manali In the Himachal Pradesh region, vigorous rainfall is overflowing the Beas River. There is a risk of flooding in the shops and homes of Bahang which will also threaten the Manali-Leh highway. On Friday, the IMD has also predicted heavy showers in the Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, Shimla and Sirmaur districts. Kedarnath Yatra remains suspended for second day In the Uttarakhand region, the Kedarnath pilgrimage is suspended for a second day due to incessant rain and landslides. Almost 1,200 pilgrims are being aided by NDRF and SDRF teams, while more than 5,000 are stranded in Sonprayag. Between Sonprayag and Gaurikund, a severely damaged 70-meter stretch of the Kedarnath highway is causing trouble. A yellow alert is also issued on Dehradun, Tehri, Champawat and Pithoragarh issued by IMD.
