In a swift and well-coordinated operation, the Deoghar police have arrested 11 cybercriminals from various locations within the district. The criminals were caught red-handed while they were in the middle of making fraudulent calls and executing digital transactions.What was seized? The haul from the raid highlights just how organized these operations have become:24 Mobile Phones: Used for bulk calling and messaging.37 SIM Cards: Mostly procured using fake identities to bypass tracking.ATM Cards & Passbooks: Used to quickly funnel stolen money through multiple "mule" accounts.Cash: A significant amount of hard cash suspected to be the proceeds of recent scams.Their Modus OperandiAccording to the police, these 11 individuals were experts in various types of digital fraud. Their most common tactics included:Bank KYC Updates: Scaring victims by saying their bank accounts would be blocked unless they shared an OTP.Electricity Bill Scams: Sending fake SMS alerts about power disconnection to trick people into clicking malicious links.App-Based Fraud: Encouraging victims to download screen-sharing apps like AnyDesk or TeamViewer to gain full control of their smartphones.A Warning for the PublicWhile the police are doing their part by making arrests, the Cyber Cell has reiterated that awareness is the best defense. They’ve urged citizens to never share OTPs, PINs, or click on unsolicited links.The 11 arrested individuals are currently being interrogated to uncover deeper links to larger inter-state cybercrime syndicates.
