Direct Buses on 12 Haryana-Bihar Routes with up to ₹1,100 Fare Discounts

In a major festive breakthrough for thousands of migrant workers, professionals, and families planning their journey home for Diwali and Chhath Puja, the state governments of Haryana and Bihar have finalized a reciprocal transport agreement to launch direct bus operations across 12 key interstate routes. Connecting major industrial hubs including Gurugram, Panipat, and Ambala with prime Bihar destinations such as Patna, Purnia, Madhubani, and Gaya, the interstate network eliminates cumbersome multi-leg train transfers during peak holiday rush. Haryana Transport Secretary Atul Dwivedi has issued an official draft notification formalizing the interstate accord and inviting public suggestions and objections within a 30-day window, setting the stage for structured permit issuances, harmonized taxation matrices, strict anti-pollution checks, and mutual roadside emergency assistance protocols between the two state transport departments.Route Network Spans up to 1,470 Kilometers: Direct Transit Linking NCR Hubs to Bihar DistrictsThe proposed transit corridors span vast arterial networks designed to connect industrial employment zones in Haryana directly to Eastern India. The flagship 1,044-kilometer route from Gurugram to Patna will transit via Sohna, Palwal, Aligarh, Lucknow, Alambagh, Azamgarh, Buxar, and Ara, while the 1,069-kilometer Panipat-Patna route operates through Delhi, Noida, Azamgarh, Buxar, and Ara. Connecting northern terminals, the Ambala-Patna service spans 1,274 kilometers through Karnal, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Etah, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Basti, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, and Gopalganj. For long-distance travelers heading to eastern Bihar, the Ambala-to-Purnia route charts the longest stretch at 1,470 kilometers, alongside direct corridors from Gurugram (1,267 km) and Panipat (1,361 km). Similarly, Gaya will be serviced via two dedicated routes from Gurugram (1,081 km and 1,099 km) cutting through Kanpur, Prayagraj, Mughalsarai, Sasaram, and Aurangabad, in addition to an Ambala-Gaya link (1,224 km), while Madhubani connects directly to Gurugram, Panipat, and Ambala via Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur, and Darbhanga.Strict Fleet Regulations: 10-Year Age Cap, Real-Time GPS Tracking, and On-Board Panic ButtonsTo ensure passenger safety, service dependability, and compliance with emission norms across interstate highways, both transport authorities have mandated rigorous operational safeguards for private and state-run operators. Commercial buses older than 10 years are strictly barred from receiving route permits on any of the 12 corridors, while transport operators carrying tax liabilities or vehicle fitness arrears in either state will face automatic permit rejection. Each bus deployed on these long-distance routes—spanning express, deluxe, deluxe AC, and luxury multi-axle AC sleeper configurations—must be outfitted with functional Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) devices and integrated emergency panic buttons for passenger safety. Furthermore, temporary cargo permits will be restricted to a maximum validity of 30 days, tourist buses will operate on 15-day permits, and transport corporations from both states are bound by reciprocal mutual-aid clauses to provide immediate priority breakdown assistance for stranded vehicles.Chhath Festival Specials: BSRTC Rolls Out 49 Buses with Slashed Sleeper FaresAnticipating unprecedented festive passenger volume, the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) has mobilized a dedicated fleet of 49 festive special buses to ferry passengers between Haryana and Bihar during Diwali and the Chhath Mahaparva, deploying seven buses from Patna, two from Gaya, 18 from Purnia, and 22 from Darbhanga. To make long-distance transit affordable against surging airline and dynamic private bus pricing, transport authorities have introduced substantial promotional ticket discounts exceeding ₹1,100 per seat. Under the revised fare structure, an AC sleeper ticket on the Bhagalpur-to-Ambala route originally priced at ₹3,603 has been discounted by ₹1,113, while passengers booking the Purnia-to-Ambala route benefit from a ₹1,103 reduction on the base fare of ₹3,462. Similarly, travelers on the Madhubani-to-Ambala AC sleeper service receive a direct rebate of ₹1,092 against the standard ₹3,257 ticket, providing substantial economic relief for families traveling home for the festive season.
