Donald Trump's new plan to end the Ukraine-Russia war, has Zelensky been sidelined?
US President Donald Trump has presented a new 28-point plan to end the Ukraine-Russia war. He has also made it clear that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky does not have the option of continuing the fighting for long. He also said that Zelensky will have to accept this plan. This plan appears to be tilted towards Russia. Trump has previously also moved forward with his plan to end the Ukraine-Russia war without Zelensky's consent. Trump said on Friday that he hopes the Ukrainian President will respond to his government's new plan to end the war by next Thursday.Speaking to the media in the Oval Office, Trump said, "We believe we have a way to make peace. Zelensky will have to accept it." Ukraine's Zelensky government faces challenges from corruption as well as the battlefield. Russia is continuously bombing its energy infrastructure, which is once again likely to make the winter season difficult for Ukrainians. Zelensky also believes that Ukraine is now facing perhaps the most difficult period in its history.Zelensky hasn't spokento Trump since the latter made the plan public. However, the Ukrainian president has said he expects to speak with the US president in the coming days. Trump's new plan seeks to pressure Ukraine to agree to cede territory to Russia, drastically reduce its military size, and to assure Europe that it will never include Ukraine in the NATO military alliance.Zelensky said in a video address on Friday that Ukraine could now face a very difficult time. It could either risk losing its dignity, or risk losing an important partner. At the heart of Trump's plan is a demand for Ukraine to relinquish all of its eastern Donbas region, a large part of which remains under Ukrainian control.
