EPFO DigiLocker update: The Employees Provident Fund Organization has rolled out services on the DigiLocker app, allowing Android users to check their PF balances and passbooks anytime, anywhere. The app also securely stores documents like the UAN card, pension payment order, and scheme certificate in digital format.Previously, passbook access was limited to the UMANG app.On July 17, 2025, EPFO announced on X that Android users can now access passbook data through DigiLocker, while UMANG will still be needed by iOS users. The DigiLocker integration enhances accessibility without eliminating the existing UMANG platform.EPFO’s new UAN activation method.On July 18, EPFO revealed that users can now activate their Universal Account Numbers through face authentication in the UMANG app. The fully digital procedure is both user-friendly and secure, streamlining the UAN onboarding process.UAN is necessary for ELI scheme To access the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme, you first need to activate your Universal Account Number (UAN). This initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is designed to equip four crore young people with jobs and skill training, and the government has earmarked ₹ 2 lakh crore for it. EPFO’s advice to its members The EPFO is urging all members to activate their UAN and link their Aadhaar number to their bank account. Doing so ensures you can fully access all digital EPFO services and the ELI scheme. If you don’t activate your UAN, you will miss out on several key EPFO services. Process to activate UAN (through UMANG app) Start by installing and opening the UMANG app on your mobile. Once inside, head to the ‘EPFO’ service section. Tap on ‘UAN Activation’ and enter your UAN, name, date of birth and the mobile number you registered with. Press ‘Get OTP’ and enter the code you receive. Then choose ‘Face Authentication’. The app will activate your camera to scan your face according to the prompts. Once the verification is successful, your UAN will be activated.
