Extended Holiday Break: Northern India to Enjoy Four Consecutive Days Off in August Due to Public Holidays and Festivals

People from all the regions located in the northern part of the country, especially those residing in Uttar Pradesh will enjoy a prolonged vacation for approximately four consecutive days with the suspension of activities for schools, government institutions, and banking facilities. This break is attributed to a mix of public holidays and observances in the beginning of August. The holiday starts with the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council issuing a break for celebrating Raksha Bandhan on the 9th of August, which is a Saturday. This results in a 2-day long workweek. This is followed by Raksha Bandhan which then extends to even more days off from 14th August to 17th August. During this time off , the public holidays which are observed include Chehlum on the 14th of August, followed by the 15th of August which is India’s independence day, and then Janmashtami which is celebrated on the 16th of August. As such, government offices, schools, and colleges will be closed from August 14th to August 17th. Other educational institutes will be closed for Chehlum and will follow the general schedule for Independence Day as well as Janmashtami. This option provides an extended break for several students and government employees to celebrate the holidays. On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that the banking services may have different closure dates, although they are likely to be the same, as branches generally follow the public holidays. The additional day off is intended to enable citizens to engage fully in these important cultural and national celebrations.
