FASTag Annual Pass: Is it mandatory to get it or is it your choice? Know the complete rules


Scheduled for launch on August 15, 2025, the FASTag Annual Pass is an optional prepaid service for private vehicles such as cars, vans, and jeeps allowing travel on specified National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE) toll plazas without per trip payments. For frequent travelers on highways, the pass is economical and convenient priced at ₹3,000 for a year or 200 trips, whichever comes first.Key points about the FASTag Annual Pass:Like all prepaid passes, the Annual Pass is optional and users have the flexibility to continue with the existing FASTag and pay tolls per trip as previously done.The pass is effective within approximately two hours of payment on Rajmargyatra or NHAI website.Provided eligible toll plazas are within the travel limits, the pass allows unlimited free passage for the duration of the toll-free trips.The pass is valid only on NHAI controlled National Highways and NE with other roads state highways being chargeable.The Annual Pass expires automatically after 200 trips or a year, at which point reverts to standard FASTag with the option to renew.The FASTag Annual Pass is vehicle specific and non-transferable which restricts changes even if the owner is different.Activation and eligibility are cross-checked with VAHAN for compliance.To sum up, the FASTag Annual Pass is entirely voluntary; for frequent travelers, it offers a cost-effective, practical solution.
