Fever Triumphs Over Sky 93-78 Amidst Star Absences

Kelsey Mitchell scored 35 points, including 7 three-pointers, to bring the Indiana Fever to consecutive wins against the Chicago Sky 93-78 on 27th July 2025. The Fever/Sky game is usually a blockbuster affair, having two WNBA superstars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese sit this game out certainly takes away from the glamor these fixtures usually have. Clark missed her fourth game in a row and is dealing with a groin injury, having only played in 50% of the Fever’s games this season. Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese was listing as questionable with a back problem, eventually missing the game on the back of her second missed game in a row. The Sky’s rookie guard, Hailey Van Lith, is out with an undisclosed injury.Even with missing some players, the Fever captured an early lead, capped off with an 18-2 run in the first quarter to gain a 26-13 lead. Kelsey Mitchell kept pace with the rest of the team, scoring 13 points in the opening quarter. Indiana padded its lead to 51-39 by the half and kept the upper hand in the second half, building the lead to a 16-point advantage early in the fourth before Chicago began its futile push. Mitchell's critical three-pointer coupled with her free throws solidified the victory. Aliyah Boston's 14 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists are some of the other standout contributions to the Fever. Off the bench, Timpson added 14 points, while McDonald scored 10. Banham led the Sky with scoring as well, racking up 26 points, alongside 14 from Nurse, 13 from Allen, and a double double of 12 points and 12 rebounds from Cardoso. This victory placed the Fever 3-0 the Sky in head-to-head matches for the season. During the broadcast, ESPN reported that the Fever are taking a more protective stance in relation to Clark's recovery. This is to ensure that she has adequate practice time to regain rhythm and timing with the rest of the team, targeting her return for the third week of August.
