Gurugram Cyber Fraud: Youth Duped of Rs 3.24 Lakh in Elaborate Online Part-Time Job Scam

Cyber fraudsters have once again struck in Gurugram, targeting an unsuspecting young man and duping him of Rs 3.24 lakh under the guise of a lucrative online part-time job offer. The incident has prompted local law enforcement to step up warnings against proliferating digital scams, with the Cyber Police Station South officially registering a formal case and launching an extensive investigation to track down the culprits.How the Online Job Trap UnfoldedAccording to the police complaint filed by Bhondsi resident Vimala Patel, the scam began when fraudsters reached out to her grandson via phone, dangling the prospect of earning easy income through a remote part-time job. Initially, the perpetrators baited the victim by assigning minor tasks and rewarding him with small, genuine-looking returns to build trust and confidence.Emboldened by the initial mock profits, the young man was gradually lured into a complex network of higher-level investment tasks, "pre-paid" assignments, and promises of massive commissions. Believing the fake promises, the victim transferred a total of Rs 3,24,000 across multiple bank accounts provided by the fraudsters. It was only when his subsequent withdrawal requests were blocked and the scammers cut off communication that he realized he had fallen victim to a calculated cyber fraud.Police Action and Growing Concerns Over Digital ScamsFollowing the complaint, the Cyber Police Station South in Gurugram registered an FIR against unknown accused parties and initiated a technical investigation, tracking money trails and digital footprints. Cybercrime cells continue to urge citizens to exercise extreme caution when dealing with unsolicited online job offers, emphasizing that legitimate employers never require advance payments, security deposits, or investments in exchange for task-based employment.
