The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has voiced strong apprehension regarding the safety of minority communities in the country amid a rising tide of violence. A presidium member of the council Deepan Mitra addressed the press and stated clearly that minorities are not safe under the current circumstances. He emphasized that the situation has become increasingly dire and the religious minorities in Bangladesh are currently fighting for their existence against systemic oppression and exploitation that has spanned decades but has intensified recently.Mitra highlighted a particularly brutal incident involving a youth named Dipu Chandra Das in the Mymensingh district as a grim example of the prevailing lawlessness. Dipu was attacked by a mob at his workplace under allegations of making blasphemous comments and he was beaten and burned alive. The council member pointed out that despite the presence of law enforcement such horrific acts continue to occur unchecked indicating a complete failure or unwillingness of the police to protect vulnerable citizens. He stressed that while complaints are often lodged police action remains virtually non existent leaving the minority population defenseless against targeted aggression. The Unity Council further shared alarming statistics regarding the scale of the violence noting that thousands of attacks on minorities have occurred across Bangladesh in recent months. The organization claimed that since the political shift over six thousand incidents have been documented ranging from physical assaults to the destruction of temples and property. The member urged the global community to take notice of the crisis and called for immediate intervention to prevent further persecution warning that the minority communities in Bangladesh are living in a state of perpetual terror and insecurity.
