Horror on the Tracks: Russia's Cruel Double-Tap Drone Strike on Civilian Trains in Ukraine

A train station in northern Ukraine became a scene of horror and devastation after a Russian drone attack targeted two passenger trains, injuring at least 30 people, including three children. The strike on the city of Shostka in the Sumy region has been condemned by Ukrainian officials as a "savage" and deliberate act of terror against civilians. The attack was a "double-tap" strike, a cruel tactic where a second strike follows the first to target those evacuating and emergency responders. The first drone hit a commuter train, and as people were trying to get to safety, a second drone struck another train bound for Kyiv that was also at the station.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy swiftly condemned the assault, sharing a video on social media showing a passenger carriage engulfed in flames with its windows shattered."The Russians could not have been unaware that they were striking civilians," Zelenskyy wrote, calling it "terror the world must not ignore.Emergency crews, including medics and rescuers, were on the scene to assist the wounded passengers and railway employees. Two of the injured were reported to be in intensive care. This attack is part of a wider, intensified Russian campaign against Ukraine's railway infrastructure over the past two months. The strikes are seen as a strategic effort to cripple logistics and terrorize the civilian population. The assault on the Shostka station came just a day after Russia launched one of its largest air attacks on Ukraine's energy and gas facilities, indicating a focus on critical infrastructure as the war continues.
