Iran has publicly declared it will not participate in nuclear talks if the United States expects a full stop to uranium enrichment. This position takes us further away from fruitful negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear activities. The Islamic Republic of Iran has been enriching uranium, an element which has the potential to be converted into fuel for nuclear reactors and can also serve as a precursor for nuclear arms. There has been, especially on the part of the US, a movement aimed at curbing or eliminating the enrichment capabilities of Iran as part of larger deals concerning its nuclear ambitions. Information sources suggest that Iran considers any demand for stopping the enrichment practice as a non-starter for negotiations. This deadlock puts a halt to diplomatic attempts until the terms of negotiations are substantially altered which shows the lack of consensus on the conditions for the revival of negotiations on the nuclear agreement.
