Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : The operation follows the January 2026 arrest of Jhabra Ram, a Jaisalmer resident, and Sumit Kumar, an MTS officer at the Dibrugarh Air Force Station. The duo had been apprehended for allegedly leaking classified Indian Army intelligence to ISI handlers. As the investigation deepened, authorities traced the money trail to a 41-year-old resident of Aurangabad, Maharashtra, identified as Rafiq Chand Shaikh. Following intense surveillance and interrogation, the CID confirmed Shaikh's pivotal role in the funding network and took him into custody on June 30, 2026.Four Years of Clandestine OperationsAccording to ADG Prafull Kumar of CID (Intelligence), Rafiq Shaikh had been operating in the shadows for at least four years. He reportedly established contact with an ISI handler via social media, gradually becoming a crucial cog in their financial machine. To circumvent detection, Shaikh systematically opened multiple bank accounts—both in his name and using the credentials of unsuspecting individuals—to transfer illicit funds to personnel embedded within the Indian espionage network.Broadening the InvestigationThe arrest of Rafiq Shaikh is viewed by authorities as only the tip of the iceberg. Investigators are currently conducting a forensic audit of the financial transactions linked to these accounts to determine the full extent of the network and identify other potential recipients of ISI funding. The Rajasthan Police has issued a stern warning, reaffirming that any anti-national activity threatening India's sovereignty will be met with uncompromising legal action. As the interrogation continues, the CID is expanding its scope to dismantle the entire infrastructure supporting these hostile operations across multiple states.
