Jagdeep Dhankhar Steps Down as India's Vice President Citing Health Concerns

New Delhi: Jagdeep Dhankhar has tendered his resignation from the post of Vice President of India, effective immediately. Citing personal health reasons, he stated a need to prioritize healthcare and abide by medical advice.In a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, Mr. Dhankhar expressed his deep gratitude for the unwavering support and positive working relationship during his tenure. He also extended thanks to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the Council of Ministers, and all Members of Parliament for their invaluable cooperation and the warmth he received. Dhankhar, who began his term as the 14th Vice President of India on August 11, 2022, reflected on his time in office as a privilege, acknowledging the insights gained and India's progress during this period. A distinguished lawyer, he also has a background as a Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and has served as a Member of Lok Sabha and the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.His resignation triggers a process for electing a successor within 60 days, with the Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, currently Harivansh Narayan Singh, likely to officiate as the interim chairperson.
