Jharkhand: PVUNL commissions second 800 MW power unit


Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL) on Thursday commenced commercial operations of its second 800 MW unit, taking the project's operational capacity to 1,600 MW within seven months.PVUNL, a joint venture of NTPC Limited and Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL), said the commissioning of Unit-2 would strengthen reliable power supply to Jharkhand and other beneficiary states.The company said both 800 MW units had now been commissioned within seven months, marking a significant milestone in project execution and enhancing the country's power generation capacity.The foundation stone of the Patratu Super Thermal Power Project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Once fully completed, the project is expected to meet Jharkhand's growing energy requirements while strengthening the national power grid.Speaking on the occasion, PVUNL Chief Executive Officer A.K. Sehgal congratulated employees, engineers, workers, vendors and project partners for achieving the milestone. He also acknowledged the support extended by NTPC, the Jharkhand government, the district administration, regulatory authorities and other stakeholders.Sehgal appreciated the cooperation of local communities and project-affected families, saying their support had been crucial to the successful execution of the project. He said the company was also implementing initiatives for skill development, livelihood promotion and community welfare in the project area.According to the company, the successful commercial operation of Unit-2 reflects its commitment to operational excellence, environmental sustainability and responsible power generation.
