
For years, the residents of Kota India’s premier coaching hub have looked at the skies with one recurring question: When will we finally get our own airport? That wait is officially coming to an end. On March 7, 2026, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma will lay the foundation stone for the ambitious Kota-Bundi Greenfield Airport.This isn't just a win for the local residents; it’s a massive upgrade for the thousands of students and parents who travel to the "Education City" every year from across the country.A Mega Day for Hadoti’s DevelopmentThe event on March 7 isn’t limited to just the airport. The Chief Minister, joined by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu, will also launch several other high-impact projects.₹4,600 Crore Water Projects: The foundation will be laid for the Nineara Project (₹1,100 crore) and the Parvan Project (₹3,500 crore), aimed at solving the long-standing drinking water and irrigation issues in the region.Prime Minister's Message: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to address the gathering via a special video message, highlighting the project’s national importance.What Makes This Airport Special?The new Greenfield airport is being built in Shambhupura, strategically located about 15 km from Kota and 20 km from Bundi.Big Planes, Better Reach: Unlike the existing small airstrip, this new facility is designed for Airbus A-321 type aircraft, meaning direct flights to major metros like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru will finally become a reality.Massive Capacity: The terminal is planned to handle 2 million passengers annually, featuring modern amenities, 7 aircraft parking bays, and a 3,200-meter runway.The "Education Hub" Boost: For the 2.5 lakh+ students who flock to Kota for competitive exams, this airport will eliminate the tedious 4-hour road or rail journey from Jaipur or Indore.The Road AheadThe project is estimated to cost around ₹1,507 crore. With the land already transferred and the foundation stone being laid this week, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) aims to complete the first phase within the next 24 to 36 months.Energy Minister Heeralal Nagar has been personally overseeing the arrangements at the Shambhupura site, ensuring that the March 7 ceremony reflects the scale of this historic milestone for the Hadoti region.
