
The domestic pharmaceutical sector is witnessing a strong market rally, powered by exceptional quarterly corporate scorecards. Shares of prominent pharma major Laurus Labs staged a powerful breakout on Monday, surging nearly 8% to hit a fresh 52-week high of ₹1,725. This stellar momentum comes on the heels of robust financial results for the June quarter (Q1 FY27), cementing the stock's stellar run that has rewarded patient investors with an impressive 72% return over the past six months.Record-Breaking Q1 Financial PerformanceLaurus Labs delivered its highest-ever quarterly revenue during the April-June 2026 period, driven by surging global demand across multiple verticals. Total income jumped 29% year-on-year to ₹2,026 crore, compared to ₹1,570 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year. Profitability witnessed an even sharper expansion, with net profit more than doubling to ₹368 crore from ₹163 crore a year ago. Operational efficiency also improved significantly, as EBITDA skyrocketed 67% to ₹638 crore, pushing the EBITDA margin up from 24.3% to a robust 31.5%.CDMO Growth and Segment PerformanceThe primary catalyst behind the company's financial surge was its high-growth Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) division, which posted a staggering 67% jump in revenue to reach ₹870 crore. Laurus Labs has set an ambitious long-term target to derive more than 50% of its total revenue from the CDMO segment by 2030. Meanwhile, the Affordable Medicines business also maintained steady momentum, registering a 10% revenue increase to ₹1,156 crore.Aggressive Capital Expenditure and Future Expansion PlansCapitalizing on surging order books, Laurus Labs announced major strategic updates regarding its future roadmap. The company has doubled its capital expenditure (capex) guidance for FY2027 from ₹1,000 crore to ₹2,000 crore, fueled by unprecedented demand from existing clients and high-potential opportunities in emerging sectors like GLP-1 and peptides. Additionally, construction on a new Finished Dosage Formulation (FDF) manufacturing plant, being built under a strategic joint venture with KRKA, is progressing on schedule, with the first phase slated to go live by mid-2027. Over the next three to four years, Laurus Labs aims to transform into a fully integrated pharmaceutical powerhouse spanning API manufacturing, generic drugs, contract research, and advanced drug development.
