Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : While hearing a rape case at Karnataka, a High Court judge lashed out, saying that the law has no teeth since criminals are being treated leniently. Justice R. Natarajan continued saying that, maybe if people lose a limb or two, they might learn to follow the law rigorously.Justice R. Natarajan was hearing the bail application of the accused in a rape case and refused to grant bail to the accused who is an engineering student aged 23. "A strict punishment is the only way to check crimes. ", observed the judge. The student is in judicial custody since early April for allegedly sexually assaulting a former batch mate of him in 2023.'Criminals misuse the advantages of democracy'"We don't strictly punish the criminals. Nataraj observed during the course of hearing the student's bail application.Crime was committed with carelessness since no drastic action is taken against offenders and there is a punishment similar to the laws prevalent in some West Asian countries observed the judge.Arguments by defence-The defence counsel stated that he had already spent two months in prison while he has not done anything and moreover the charge was something that occurred three years ago."If you eat salt you have to drink water, let him continue in the prison for 4-5 more days, let him enjoy jail life, maybe even he might get convicted in the future", was a strong observation by the judge.
