Commuters traveling between Munger and Bhagalpur can finally look forward to seamless connectivity, as the first phase of the ambitious 124-kilometer Munger-Mirzachowki four-lane highway project is scheduled to open for vehicular traffic right after Durga Puja. Although Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary had previously targeted a July rollout, unforeseen construction delays and pending structural tasks pushed back the timeline. Currently, construction agencies have ramped up activity across the corridor, with overall project completion successfully reaching the 80 to 85 percent milestone, promising a major infrastructural upgrade for Bihar.Resolving Power Tower Obstructions and Fast-Tracking Final Construction StretchesTo clear the path for the upcoming highway inauguration, critical bottleneck issues are being actively resolved. Work commenced on Friday to shift three massive high-tension power towers obstructing the four-lane alignment near Patam in Munger, following a formal shutdown clearance from the electricity department. According to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Project Director Manish Kumar, the tower relocation will take up to six days. Meanwhile, remaining construction works—including a two-kilometer stretch at the Munger starting point, 150 meters in Bariyarpur, 700 meters near Patam, and the nearly complete overbridge near Teliya Talab—are targeted for completion by the third week of October.Easing Massive Traffic Pressure on Sri Krishna Setu and Vikramshila BridgeThe opening of this vital four-lane section is expected to bring immense relief to motorists grappling with severe daily traffic jams. Following the closure of Bhagalpur's Vikramshila Bridge to heavy vehicles since May, surrounding routes like the Munger-Bariyarpur NH-80 and Sri Krishna Bridge have experienced crippling congestion, with an extra 5,500 vehicles daily diverted through Sri Krishna Setu toward North Bihar, Patna, Kosi, and Seemanchal. Once operational, the new four-lane highway will provide an efficient alternative route, significantly slashing travel times, eradicating chronic bottlenecks, and restoring smooth transit across the entire region.
