
New Delhi: The 71st National Film Awards opened up on 1st August 2025, when the Information and Broadcasting Ministry demarcated the awards for the films which got released and were certified in the year 2023. This year, the ceremony, in itself, was truly remarkable, especially with the first National Film Award victories of global sensation Shah Rukh Khan and Vikrant Massey, who jointly received Best Actor in a Leading Role award. Shah Rukh Khan bagged the award for his electrifying dual role in the action thriller ‘Jawan’. His winning an award strengthens the claim of ‘Jawan’. ‘Jawan’, which was a box office success in 2023, had Khan starring in several other major successes. In the past record-breaking successes of ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Dunki’, which alongside ‘Jawan’ grossed over Rs 2500 crore worldwide, ‘Jawan’ was produced by and co-written by Atlee and his ‘Deewana’ marked the start of a over 30 year career in films for Khan which has now Bespoke a new National Award.For sharing the Best Actor accolade, Vikrant Massey was awarded for ‘12th Fail’ his Manoj Kumar Sharma performance which recieved widespread acclaim from critics. Massey was awarded for his performance which depicts the tale of the underdog turning IPS officer an inspiring and uplifting journey which immense hurdles. Rani Mukerji was praised with Best Actress award for her passionate and emotionally driven performance of the mother in the ‘Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway’ film, confronting an entity in Norway. Through her acting, she accurately and vividly captures the emotional struggle of the mother, and such voices that have been mustered helps solidify her place among the genius of Indian cinema. These awards include films with a certificate from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, which highlights the relevance of films in a single year.
