India's ace Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra booked his spot at the next edition of the Commonwealth Games by registering a sensational throw of 82.77 metres at the Doha Diamond League on Friday night to seal the qualification mark.The Olympic and World Champion qualified for his first event of the season at the ongoing Diamond League meet, taking the 3rd position by virtue of his second attempt throw.The mark achieved was enough to surpass the 82.61m qualifying yardstick for the mega sporting event. Desperate times called for Desperate measures for the 28-year-old. However, Neeraj had a forgetful beginning as he registered a foul. Following that, Neeraj managed a huge 82.77 metres that sealed his spot in Commonwealth games and a qualification to the Tokyo Games next month as well.The throw in his next attempt was better as he recorded a measurement of 85.69 metres to retain third place in the competition standings."Neeraj has recovered from his injury and we are confident he will produce a good show today. He is well-prepared," had said his coach Sandeep Narwal prior to the event. Chopra is competing for the first time this season after a break of a few months to recover from a recurring back injury.Chopra had spent most of the previous season working on strengthening his body and improving his technique after sustaining a muscle strain in the 2022 World Championships, where he managed to get a silver. However, in spite of everything he had trained for, in spite of the effort of trying to manage his body the result in Doha didn’t initially look all that promising as Neeraj was marked out due to disqualification in his first round throw. He had, after missing his first two attempts, registered an attempt of 82.77m to secure the qualification, a mark which was very close to his personal best.His next best throw of the evening had read 85.69m which put him comfortably on the third spot as the two lead throwers continued.
