The family maintained that they had already deposited over ₹23.6 lakh toward medical expenses during the course of treatment, but the sudden demand for an additional ₹18,55,422 left them financially incapacitated and unable to claim their loved one's remains.National Human Rights Commission Swiftly IntervenesFacing mounting distress, the victim's mother, Sushma Rani, formally approached the National Human Rights Commission, detailing their financial destitution and pleading for urgent relief against the hospital's withholding of the body.Taking swift cognizance of the grievance, NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo intervened directly in the matter. Using his official social media presence, Kanoongo publicly addressed the hospital administration and signaled immediate oversight, warning of strict regulatory repercussions.Faced with mounting pressure from the national rights body, the hospital management relented, releasing the body to the family late Saturday evening without demanding the disputed balance payment, allowing the grieving relatives to finally transport Ankur home for final last rites.
