Nuh Police Warns Against Flaunting Massive Currency Note Garlands At Weddings

In a major crackdown against the open display of unaccounted wealth and extravagant wedding traditions, the Nuh Police in Haryana has issued a stern, widespread warning across the region. If you are planning a grand wedding in your family and intend to use massive garlands made of original currency notes to welcome the groom or guests, you need to be extremely cautious. Moving swiftly to curb potential financial irregularities and maintain public order, top law enforcement authorities have announced that teams will now actively monitor local marriage functions, verify the source of high-value cash garlands, and report discrepancies directly to financial watchdogs.Cracking Down On The Culture Of Extravagance And Financial AnonymityThe traditional practice of wearing garlands made of currency notes—often running into lakhs of rupees—has taken an aggressive turn in various parts of Haryana's Mewat region, frequently serving as an open display of black money or unaccounted financial resources. The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Nuh emphasized that while wedding celebrations are a personal matter, flaunting huge bundles of hard cash in public publicizes a high risk of theft, creates security vulnerabilities, and violates established financial regulations. Moving forward, local station house officers (SHOs) have been instructed to keep a vigilant eye on lavish venues and gather intelligence on functions featuring massive cash displays.Tracking The Cash Trail: Income Tax Departments To Be NotifiedThe Nuh Police clarified that their investigation will focus primarily on checking the legitimacy and source of the money used in these oversized garlands. If a family or individual is found using currency garlands of exceptionally high value, they will be legally required to provide immediate proof of where the cash was withdrawn or sourced. In cases where the individuals fail to show valid banking receipts, income tax filings, or account statements explaining the sudden availability of liquid cash, the police will instantly seize the currency and hand over the case details to the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for severe tax evasion inquiries.Promoting Digital Economy and Maintaining Law and OrderLaw enforcement officials noted that this strict directive also aims to discourage anti-social elements and check criminal activities linked to illegal financial transactions in the district. By placing accountability on families and local wedding planners, the administration intends to promote safe digital transactions and transparent banking habits even during traditional festive celebrations. The Nuh Police has appealed to community elders, village sarpanches, and responsible citizens to cooperate with the department, raise awareness against this risky practice, and ensure that wedding ceremonies are conducted within the absolute boundaries of the law.
