Patna Metro Milestone: CM Samrat Chaudhary to Inaugurate Malahipakdi Extension Today

The city of Patna is poised for a major leap in its urban transit infrastructure as the Patna Metro gets ready for a significant expansion. On July 2, 2026, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary will officially inaugurate the Malahipakdi Metro Station, extending the existing priority corridor and bringing fast, modern transit closer to the residents of eastern Patna. This expansion marks a pivotal moment in the city’s connectivity, as the metro network moves one step closer to its ultimate goal of linking the capital’s busiest commercial and residential hubs.Network Expansion: 6.2 Kilometers of Seamless TravelCurrently, the Patna Metro provides service along a 3.6-kilometer stretch that links New ISBT, Zero Mile, and Bhootnath Station. With the addition of the Malahipakdi station, the operational corridor will extend to approximately 6.2 kilometers. This expansion effectively doubles the metro's reach, allowing commuters to traverse the entire route in just 15 minutes. By significantly reducing travel time through some of the city's most congested areas, the extended corridor is expected to provide substantial relief to daily office-goers and students alike.Ticket Pricing and Operational EaseThe Patna Metro administration has maintained affordability as a core priority for this new route. Passengers traveling the full distance from New ISBT to the new Malahipakdi station will be charged a maximum fare of ₹30, while a shorter trip to Bhootnath Station will cost ₹15. This pricing structure is designed to encourage public uptake and offer a cost-effective, safe, and reliable alternative to traditional road-based transport, further easing the daily traffic burden on Patna’s main arterial roads.Future Outlook: The Road to Patna JunctionThe inauguration of the Malahipakdi station is just the beginning of a larger master plan. The next phase of the project will focus on extending the line toward the heart of the city—Patna Junction. This upcoming corridor is slated to include major landmarks and high-traffic transit points, such as Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, Rajendra Nagar, Patna University, PMCH, Gandhi Maidan, and Akashvani. As construction continues at a rapid pace across these critical sites, the Patna Metro remains on track to transform the capital's public transportation landscape, ensuring that the city is well-prepared for the future of urban mobility.
