Pensioners Can Now Submit Digital Life Certificate from Home via Smartphone Face Scan

In a major push toward end-to-end digital governance and senior citizen convenience, the Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare (DoPPW) has urged central and state pensioners across India to actively switch to the Digital Life Certificate (DLC) system and avoid standing in crowded bank queues. Addressing the nationwide initiative on Tuesday, Union Pension Secretary Nivedita Shukla Verma emphasized that the sovereign welfare department places the comfort and dignity of elderly pensioners at the very core of all administrative reforms. Under statutory rules, every pensioner is required to submit an annual life certificate to maintain uninterrupted monthly pension disbursements. Through the biometric and facial authentication-enabled Jeevan Pramaan mechanism, this mandatory annual compliance can now be concluded within seconds directly from home, eliminating physical branch visits and third-party dependencies.Doorstep Digital Empowerment: Smartphone Facial Authentication Eliminates Physical Bank VisitsExplaining the user-friendly mechanics of the platform, the department highlighted that the DLC framework allows elderly citizens to verify their identity seamlessly on personal Android or iOS smartphones using integrated Aadhaar-based Face Authentication Technology (FAT). Pensioners no longer need external biometric fingerprint scanners or visits to local treasury offices, post offices, or citizen service centers. The automated Jeevan Pramaan portal captures the live biometric feed, authenticates credentials against the central identity database, and instantly dispatches a digital verification receipt straight to the pensioner’s bank, guaranteeing continuous credit of monthly pensions without procedural delays or paperwork hurdles.Grassroots Outreach to Remote Corners: Secretary Calls on Seniors to Lead Awareness CampaignUnderscoring the critical importance of last-mile digital penetration, Secretary Nivedita Shukla Verma stated that the overarching success of the DLC campaign relies heavily on reaching super-senior pensioners, individuals with limited mobility, and those residing in distant rural and semi-urban localities. Calling upon tech-enabled retirees to step forward as peer leaders of digital empowerment, the Secretary urged them to share their personal experiences, assist aging neighbors, and actively mentor fellow community members in using facial recognition apps on their mobile phones. By turning senior citizens into active digital advocates, the administration aims to transition India's extensive pension ecosystem toward 100 percent paperless, accessible, and stress-free life certification.
