Post Office: Now you will be able to make UPI payments at post offices, the facility will be available from this date

UPI Payments to Be Acceptable at All Post Offices in India from August 2025: The method of paying at the post office is about to undergo significant changes. Effective immediately, the convenience of digital payment will be available over the counter in every post office of the country. It has been announced by the Department of Posts that starting August 2025, all post offices will be ready to accept digital payment transactions. This will be facilitated through the next generation of their IT infrastructure IT 2.0, which will support digital transactions using dynamic QR codes through UPI (Unified Payments Interface). The department has also clarified that assistance will be available to customers who need help using electronic payment methods. The post offices in the country had no way of accepting UPI based digital payments because their IT infrastructure was not interfaced with UPI. Now, however, an application is being developed as part of the IT 2.0 upgrade that will issue dynamic QR codes for each transaction. This will make the process of paying for postal services much simpler and safer for customers. The facility will be open from these days The pilot project of this new policy has been commenced in Karnataka Circle. Remote booking of mail items via QR code is operational in many smaller post offices as well as the head offices of Mysore and Bagalkot. Officers have mentioned that this new system will be done in a step by step manner in every post office in the country and all post offices will have the systems by August 2025.In the past, the Postal Department had employed static QR codes placed on the counters for uper payment as a UPI Transaction based payment system, however this service was stopped because of system problems and grievances from customers. Now learning from the same experience, the department has moved towards dynamic QR code, which generate new codes for each transaction which makes payments secure and fraud resistant. This change means that hundreds of thousands of rural and semi urban customers who access post office services everyday will be able to pay digitally rather than using cash. Previously, cash was the only accepted method of payment. This is seen as a major boost in speed towards the aim of ‘Digital India’ and a cashless economy.
