Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin: A Roof for Every Rural Family

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin is one of the Central Government's biggest sustained efforts to ensure that every rural citizen has a solid home. Originally launched as the Indira Awas Yojana in 1996, the programme was revamped in 2016 and relaunched as PMAY-Gramin. This revamped initiative not only gives families the money to build a pucca house but also covers other essential needs. Alongside the house, the scheme covers toilets, kitchen spaces, electricity, clean water, and even cooking gas connections. Funds are released in three parts, directed straight to the families’ bank accounts for transparency and ease. PMAY-Gramin officially kicked off on April 1, 2016, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled it. The scheme's main goal is to replace the last remaining kutcha houses and to give families that have no home a solid and secure roof. The Government also promises basic facilities that ensure better living conditions. Every house built under the plan must have a minimum size of 25 square metres, and that space is the minimum tally for the kitchen, too.Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana—Rural SchemeThe Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana—Rural Scheme gives big help to families wanting to build a strong home.
