Rajasthan Farmers Relieved: CM Bhajan Lal Sharma Orders Immediate Girdawari Survey After Unseasonal Rains

In a swift response to the sudden climatic shift across the desert state, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has directed state officials to conduct an immediate and comprehensive crop loss survey (Girdawari). The move comes after unexpected heavy rainfall and hailstorms lashed several districts, leaving farmers worried about their ready-to-harvest Rabi crops.Emergency Directives to District CollectorsThe Chief Minister has issued strict instructions to all District Collectors to ensure that the assessment of agricultural damage is completed within a fixed timeframe. The Chief Minister stated, “Our priority is to provide assistance to every affected farmer.” Revenue officials (Patwaris) have been deployed to the fields to document the extent of the loss in rain-hit areas like Alwar, Bharatpur, and parts of Western Rajasthan.Crops at Risk: Mustard and Wheat Hardest HitAgricultural experts suggest that the unseasonal showers have arrived at a critical stage for the Mustard (Sarson) and Wheat crops. In many regions, the crops were either nearing maturity or were already harvested and lying in the open mandis. The combination of moisture and strong winds has led to "lodging" (flattening of crops), which could significantly reduce the final yield and quality of the produce.Financial Relief and Insurance ClaimsTo expedite the relief process, the state government has activated the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) protocols. Farmers have been urged to report their individual crop losses on the dedicated toll-free numbers within 72 hours of the calamity. The Chief Minister assured that the compensation amount would be credited directly to the bank accounts of eligible farmers as soon as the survey reports are verified.A Growing Climate Challenge for RajasthanThis sudden weather disruption highlights the increasing frequency of extreme weather events in North India. While the rains have brought a dip in temperatures, the economic impact on the rural economy remains a concern. The state government is also reviewing the infrastructure at local 'Grain Mandis' to ensure that harvested produce is protected from such sudden downpours in the future.
