Ranchi. A large number of local people participated in the Jagran Aapke Dwar programme organised in ward number 51 Devinagar Hesag Hatia under Ranchi Municipal Corporation regarding the water crisis.During the programme, the ward residents unanimously expressed their displeasure over the lack of basic facilities that had been pending for years and questioned the indifference of the administration and public representatives.Local people said that a pipeline was laid for drinking water supply in Hesag area about six years ago, but till date not a single drop of water has reached the tap. This water problem has persisted for years, but it becomes more severe during the summer season. People are forced to rely on wells and boreholes. Many families have to travel to remote areas to obtain drinking water. The administration claims to supply water through tankers during the summer, but this arrangement proves inadequate. The water supplied by the tankers is far less than what is needed, often leading to disputes among residents. Women and children are forced to stand in line for hours to get water.Gas pipeline laid, but waiting for connection for yearsAlong with the drinking water issue, the gas pipeline issue is also a major source of public anger. Locals reported that a gas pipeline has been laid in the area, but the gas connections have not yet been activated. People are still waiting for gas connections. Even today, people are forced to stand in long queues for cooking gas cylinders.Sometimes, entire days are spent waiting for a cylinder. The condition of the infrastructure in the ward is also very poor. Roads are broken in many streets, making life difficult due to mud during the rainy season and dust during the summer. Due to the lack of proper drainage, dirty water flows onto the roads.Streetlights are out of order, creating darkness at night and a constant threat from antisocial elements. Furthermore, dilapidated electric poles and dangling wires threaten the potential for a major accident. Door-to-door garbage collection is also not regular, leading to piles of garbage everywhere and the risk of spreading disease. Both old age pension and widow pension have stopped being made. The ward also lags behind in social security schemes. For years, many women in the ward have not been able to obtain old-age pension and widow pension cards. Despite repeated applications, no hearings are held, forcing poor and needy women to endure financial hardship.People say that due to the absence of civic elections, there are no public representatives to raise and resolve the ward's problems. Officials only offer assurances, but no action is taken on the ground. The water pipeline has been laid for six years, but there hasn't been any tap water. The situation worsens during the summer. The administration is only showing work on paper. -Pooja DeviEven after laying the gas pipeline, they were unable to obtain a connection. Even today, they have to wait in line for cylinders. Women's time and effort are being wasted. - Reena GuptaWater is available through tankers, but it's very scarce. Finding water has become a major problem for children and the elderly. People are demanding the resumption of pipeline service. - Sita SharmaThe condition of the roads and drains is poor. Leaving the house during the rainy season becomes difficult. No one listens when we complain. The streetlights on the main road have been out of order for years. - Sunil GuptaThe streetlights are out of order, making it scary at night. Women and girls are afraid to venture outside. Even when we complain, no one listens. People are just paying taxes. - Ramchandra SharmaDangling electrical wires can cause accidents at any time, but the department is paying no attention. Many new neighborhoods lack electricity poles. Despite applications, poles are still not being installed. - Munni DeviDoor-to-door garbage collection isn't done properly. Unsanitary conditions pose a risk of spreading disease. In the smart city, people are forced to dump their garbage at intersections. The audience is silent. - Preeti DeviThe poor are not being heard. I demand the administration restore water supply, gas connections, and other basic amenities as soon as possible so that the residents of the ward can find relief. - Sadhu Kumar
