Randhawa Demands Call Detail Probe Into Police-Gangster Nexus

Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Dera Baba Nanak, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, has sparked massive political controversy by accusing Border Range police officers of maintaining direct nexus and colluding with criminal gangs. Addressing the media following a formal meeting with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, the former Deputy Chief Minister asserted that he was making the explosive claims with complete responsibility, even inviting the state Director General of Police (DGP) to file legal charges against him if his statements were proven factually incorrect.Demanding Call Detail Records and Targeting the Punjab DGPRandhawa strongly demanded a comprehensive, high-level forensic audit of mobile phones and call detail records (CDRs) belonging to several high-ranking police officers, including Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) recently transferred out of Dera Baba Nanak and Batala. Maintaining that this investigation would instantly expose criminal syndicates operating behind closed doors, Randhawa shifted his focus to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav. He alleged glaring administrative failures, claiming that while law enforcement agencies were actively extending security cover to the families of notorious gangsters, ordinary citizens facing extortion threats and ransom calls were being left entirely unprotected.Questions on Law and Order, Municipal Polls, and Finance Minister CheemaExpanding his critique beyond the police force, Randhawa emphasized that Punjab urgently requires a permanent, fully empowered DGP to restore institutional accountability rather than temporary leadership. Citing recent experiences during the Gurdaspur Municipal Council elections, he alleged that voters were openly intimidated over phone calls by gangsters while the local administration looked the other way. Furthermore, targeting Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema over the controversial Gulzar Singh case in Sangrur, Randhawa demanded the immediate removal of Cheema from his ministerial berth and the filing of criminal abetment charges, claiming the deceased had explicitly named local figures and the minister prior to his death.
