New Delhi: On Thursday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ravi Kishan urged the central government to formulate a policy governing the pricing and portion control of food served at restaurants, hotels, and roadside dhabas.* The MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur further added during the question hour of Lok Sabha that the pricing of food items was out of control. I quote, “The rates are different everywhere. In Delhi’s Chandni Chowk, the rates of samosa are different, while the prices are different in Gorakhpur’s Gol Bazar. Somewhere, you get a large samosa on a plate, while somewhere the size will be small. ‘Dal Tadka’ at some outlets you get for Rs 100, while at others, it is Rs 120, and in a hotel it is Rs 1,000.”

pic.twitter.com/DgyQMOS8Vz
— अश्विनी सोनी اشونی سونی (@Ramraajya) July 31, 2025
In the last 11 years, PM Modi has brought in many transformative changes, but this segment has not got its due attention. Equivalent legislations have not been introduced.Congress attacks Ravi Kishan In the meantime, Congress slammed the actor-turned politician for his remarks in the Lok Sabha. Party leader Surendra Singh Rajput commented here that perhaps the BJP MP was trying to bring in the discussion of samosa, which cost Rs 250 at the Adani owned Airports. "You called yourself brave, so have the guts to challenge the samosa prices at Airports owned by Gautam Adani. If you cannot do that, then we shall believe you are frightened of Gautam Adani, who is friend of PM Modi," Rajput said.
