According to the German Research Center for Geoscience (GFZ), as of 4:41 pm this Sunday, northeastern India was hit by a 5.9 magnitude earthquake. The focus or epicenter of the earthquake is said to have been only 10 km from the surface. Many areas like the Guwahati region in Assam, as well as Siliguri in North Bengal, were said to have been effected. The earthquake was also said to have been felt in the northern regions of Bhutan and Bangladesh.“I thought the roof would come crashing down on me.”In Guwahati, post the tremors, people cherry-red and frantically ran out of their houses. A user on X claimed “My legs still tremble from how infamously horrific the shaking was.” Another user claimed that during the shaking, “I thought the roof was going to come down.”What has the local authorities claimed?Assam still has no reports of injuries and people still on the move for the available property, all systems still on guard. Recovery of the property and humans in the area still monitoring the tremors is in the process for collapse reports.In addition, the area of Raichur was rocked by a slight earthquake, which registered as a 2.7 earthquake of the Richter scale.The NCS claims that this occurred on the first day of the week, just after sundown. “The earthquake surface at 1:44, and the coordinates for the center lie around 16.04 N and 76.63 E nearby the Raichur of India, under a distance of 76.63 E around 10 Km away the surface.”
