Sickly State to Medical Hub: CM Yogi Unveils Vision for Mega Pharma & Medical Device Parks in UP

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a massive infrastructure overhaul aimed at transforming the state into India's premier healthcare and pharmaceutical destination. Highlighting a decade of rapid growth, the Chief Minister revealed that the number of medical colleges in the state has surged from a mere 17 a decade ago to a staggering 81 today. This announcement came during a high-level briefing where he emphasized the shift from being a "Bimaru" (sickly) state to a medical powerhouse.UP’s Multi-Billion Dollar Pharma GambitThe state government is now pivoting towards large-scale manufacturing with the establishment of dedicated Pharma Parks and Medical Device Parks. These hubs are designed to reduce India's dependency on medical imports and foster a "Made in UP" brand for essential life-saving drugs and sophisticated surgical equipment. The Chief Minister noted that these parks would not just be industrial zones but integrated ecosystems featuring research laboratories, testing centers, and logistics hubs. This move is expected to attract global investment and create thousands of high-skilled jobs for the youth of Uttar Pradesh. The 10-Year Transformation: 17 to 81 Medical CollegesReflecting on the progress made over the last decade, CM Yogi highlighted the dramatic expansion of medical education. For decades, UP struggled with a severe shortage of doctors and specialized healthcare facilities. A decade ago, only 17 medical colleges served the entire population of over 200 million. Today, with 81 medical colleges now functional or in advanced stages of completion, the "One District, One Medical College" vision is nearing 100% reality. This expansion has not only increased the number of MBBS and PG seats but has also ensured that advanced tertiary care is available in remote districts, significantly reducing the burden on hospitals in Lucknow and Delhi.Scaling Healthcare Infrastructure and InvestmentBeyond urban centers, the state is focusing on strengthening the Primary and Community Health Centers (PHCs and CHCs). The Chief Minister stated that the integration of digital health records and telemedicine is a priority to ensure that the "last mile" citizen receives expert consultation. To support the Pharma and Medical Device Parks, the UP government is offering lucrative incentives, including subsidized land, 24/7 power supply, and a single-window clearance system for environmental and industrial permits. CM Yogi assured investors that the state’s improved law and order situation and robust expressway network make it the safest and most efficient destination for the pharmaceutical industry in South Asia.
