This is the first time the government has publicly and officially acknowledged the losses suffered by the Indian Armed Forces during this operation.Names inscribed on the National War MemorialAccording to the National War Memorial website, the names of the martyrs are engraved on Wall 3D of the memorial in the year 2025 section, which is dedicated to the military personnel who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation.These six bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation include Subedar Major Pawan Kumar of Headquarters 10 Infantry Brigade, Rifleman Sunil Kumar (Vir Chakra) of 4 Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of 5 Field Regiment, Aviation Technician Mood Muralinaik of 851 Light Regiment, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh of 237 Field Workshop Company, Sergeant Surendra Kumar, Vayu Sena Medal (39 Wing).There had been a lot of speculation and news about the military casualties during the four-day conflict between India and Pakistan in May 2025. However, until now, the government had not officially disclosed the identities of the personnel who sacrificed their lives during Operation Sindoor. This has now been officially confirmed with the publication of these names on the Roll of Honor at the National War Memorial.Operation Sindoor was launched after the Pahalgam attack.Operation Sindoor was launched in the early hours of May 7, 2025. The operation came weeks after the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians, most of them tourists.As part of this operation, the Indian Armed Forces carried out precision strikes on nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and PoK. These strikes primarily targeted terrorist infrastructure linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Following talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two countries, an agreement was reached to cease military operations on May 10.Army and Air Force bravehearts involvedThe names revealed clearly indicate that personnel from both the Army and the Indian Air Force were martyred during Operation Sindoor. This reflects the multi-service coordination and joint nature of this military operation.Those honored include Rifleman Sunil Kumar, who was awarded the Vir Chakra for gallantry, and Sergeant Surendra Kumar, a recipient of the Vayu Sena Medal. This highlights the crucial role played by these gallantry award-winning soldiers throughout this operation.The National War Memorial, inaugurated in 2019 near India Gate, commemorates the Indian Armed Forces personnel who laid down their lives in various military operations and conflicts since independence. With the addition of these six names, Operation Sindoor has now officially found a place on the memorial as one of the historic military operations that the nation will always remember.
