Bihar's Higher Education Revamp: Significant changes are being introduced into the higher education landscape of Bihar. Soon, state universities will integrate 7 new professional courses, including banking, e-commerce, creative writing, healthcare, and digital electronics. Classes Will Be Taught Following The Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) Model. Here is all the essential information regarding these seven new professional courses that are being introduced in the universities of Bihar.Will be conducted on the basis of NEP 2020The design of these courses is aligned with New Education Policy 2020 and UGC recommendations. These new courses will be completed in four years comprising eight semesters. Each semester has a fixed credit of 20 marks. Thus, students can complete the degree with 160 credits. The complete format is ready with the education department and is now going to Raj Bhavan for permission. It will be implemented as soon as it is granted.Will start as a pilot projectInitially, all these courses will be rolled out as pilot projects in a few selected colleges across the state. If students find them interesting and the overall response is positive, then other colleges in Bihar will also adopt them.An internship stipend will be offered From the proposed 7 courses, 4 are in commerce. Additionally, one is from arts, one from science and one from digital technology. What is unique about these courses is that in their last year, students will be offered internships in the industry. During their internship, they will receive a stipend ranging from Rs 15,000 to 17,000. The internship will be facilitated by the Board of Practical Training (BOPT), Eastern Region, Kolkata. National-international recognition will be available All these courses have been created based on the National Education Policy 2020 and within the parameters set by UGC. After obtaining approval from the respective universities, the degrees will be recognized both in India and overseas. Students will earn a professional degree together with graduation which will eliminate the need for any additional courses later on. Currently, there are no designated permanent lecturers for these new courses, but they may employ part-time instructors. In undergraduate classes, subject assistant professors will teach these courses.New courses will be developed based off the requirements of the job marketDr. RK Verma, an educational consultant, expresses that “These courses will be very beneficial for the students and will increase their employment opportunities. But, it is necessary that posts of specialist teachers should also be created to conduct these courses.”Lack of interest in older coursesStudents no longer seem to be drawn towards the older professional courses available at universities because these courses did not match the evolving job market. As a result, there was a significant demand for professionally relevant and skill-oriented courses for a considerable amount of time.
