The Mountain Smashes Strongman World Record: Hafpor Julius lifted over three times my bodyweight

Hafpor Julius Bjornsson is very well known for his immense role as Gregor Clegane “The Mountain” in HBO’s Game of Thrones. He not only used his character to further his name but to solidify his mark in the world of elite strength. He achieved a monumental feat for the strongest of all men by deadlifting a world record of 501 kilograms in May 2020. It has to be noted that this incredible feat of strength is an additional world record surpassing the previous record of 500 kg held by Eddie Hall in 2016.The historic pull was done at Thor's Power Gym in Iceland which belonged to Hafthor Bjornsson himself, during the “feats of strength” segment of the World’s Ultimate Strongman series. In strongman style, Bjornsson put on figure eight straps and lifting belts. Overcoming the massive effort of lifting 540 kg, Hafthor's pull was filmed to document this extraordinary moment. While Hall’s 500 kg lift is the heaviest ever done at a strongman contest, Bjornsson's 501 kg lift is now the heaviest ever done in that weight lifting technique, truly a remarkable feat of strength. In addition to weight lifting, Bjornsson has taken up boxing and even set a new “deadlift of data” record by lifting 996 pounds of solid state drives during a tech conference.”
